In the spirit of Sewall Wright and James Crow, the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) continues to promote excellence in Evolutionary Biology. Diverse faculty in numerous departments and colleges conduct research in the area of Evolutionary Biology. Furthermore the University has great strengths in numerous fields that pertain to evolution, including bioinformatics, biostatistics, developmental biology, genetics, genomics, ecology, and quantitative genetics.
UW-Madison enjoys a strong evolutionary community, bridged together by the James F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution (previously known as the Evolution Initiative) within the Genetics Department. Researchers from a broad range of departments (including Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Agronomy, Zoology, Botany, Anthropology, Geology, and many more) study a broad ranges of topics in evolution and ecology.
