Serving as Chair of the Laboratory of Genetics since 1996, I welcome you to explore our comprehensive one-stop shopping guide to Genetics on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
The Laboratory of Genetics is a unique organization consisting of two academic departments, the Department of Genetics in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Department of Medical Genetics in the School of Medicine and Public Health. The two departments are administratively merged into one academic unit. We currently have 27 faculty members with appointments in Genetics whose research spans everything from agricultural genetics to human genetics. Furthermore, our PhD training program includes about 75 faculty trainers spanning multiple departments and schools.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is consistently ranked one of the top research institutions in the country, and offers a unique environment of cutting-edge research and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The Laboratory of Genetics is no exception – as the oldest Genetics department in the country, our rich history in Genetics is matched by exceptional ongoing research. The training program includes 6 members of the National Academy, 3 Howard Hughes investigators, 2 recent PECASE award winners, and recipients of numerous other national awards.
Whether you are a high school student looking forward to college, an undergraduate looking for a major or an undergraduate already in the Genetics major, a current or prospective graduate student, or anyone else with an interest in genetics, I welcome you to explore the website to find out more about the great genetics community on campus.”
